City buys three acres near municipal center

“We’re pleased with the decision of the City to purchase the three acres of land in the town-center area,” said Tom Greene, chairman of North Augusta 2000’s board. “The reason that we went to the City and asked them if they were interested in buying it is that we were unable to market the land properly. With a rising indebtedness, we approached the City and asked if they could purchase the three acres next to the municipal building. We felt like the City was in a better position to hold the land until a proper developer could be attained.”

“There is nothing more concrete in terms of an administration’s priorities than saying, ‘I’ve put it in black and white; this is where we stand,’” Sanford said. “If we’re going to be transparent about what you believe in terms of government … there’s nothing more clear than putting it into a budget.”
