Sheriffs Call Alan Wilson Best Choice for Attorney General
Law Enforcement Leaders Proclaim Wilson the Proven Prosecutor Needed To Keep Families Safe
COLUMBIA, SC – More than one-third of South Carolina’s sheriffs are formally supporting Alan Wilson for Attorney General.   The sheriffs are members of both the Republican and Democratic parties and fight crime in every corner of the state.

To date, sixteen sheriffs are rallying behind Alan Wilson, an experienced prosecutor and Iraq war veteran.  They have all signed a formal letter of support. The sheriffs are  Ed Carroll (Barnwell), Wayne DeWitt (Berkeley), Thomas Summers (Calhoun), Richard Smith (Chester), Sam Parker (Chesterfield), Randy Garrett (Clarendon), Herman Young (Fairfield), Tony Davis (Greenwood), Ricky Chastain (Laurens), James Metts (Lexington), Mark Richardson (Marion), Lee Foster (Newberry), James Singleton (Oconee), Jason Booth (Saluda), Chuck Wright (Spartanburg), and Bruce Bryant (York).

“I am honored to have the support of these fine law enforcement leaders.  These men and their deputies are the most important crime fighters in America.  They are the heroes who keep our communities and families safe on a daily basis,” Wilson said.  “Having the support of sheriffs from across the state is the highest honor one can receive while running for Attorney General.”

In the signed group letter of support below, the sheriffs praise not only Wilson’s record of leadership as a prosecutor in the courtroom and but also as an officer in the South Carolina National Guard.

Wilson has worked as both an Assistant Solicitor in Lexington County and as an Assistant Attorney General at the South Carolina Attorney General’s office.  He has prosecuted violent crime, white collar crime, criminal domestic violence, child abuse, public corruption and more.  Additionally, Wilson served his country overseas for one year in Iraq with the South Carolina National Guard where he successfully led convoys through enemy fire. Wilson lives in Lexington with his wife Jennifer and their two children, Michael and Anna Grace.

The group letter of support from the sheriffs reads:
“In this brave new world, nothing is more important than making sure South Carolina is the safest place to live, work, and raise a family.

It is imperative that we have an Attorney General with the proven experience, courage, and leadership to keep our families, our children, and all of our citizens safe.

Simply put, we need Alan Wilson to be our next Attorney General. He is a proven prosecutor who has worked tirelessly with law enforcement to promote freedom, protect our communities, and preserve our values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

From the courtroom to the battlefields of Iraq, Alan Wilson has faced evil first hand. His proven leadership and his ability to make the right decision regardless of circumstance are exactly what we need in South Carolina’s next Attorney General.

Our Attorney General is not only South Carolina’s top law enforcement officer, but he is also the attorney for the people.

As an Assistant Solicitor and an Assistant Attorney General, Alan Wilson has represented the people and victims of this state while putting away some the worst and most violent criminals possible.

As sheriffs, we enthusiastically endorse Alan Wilson for Attorney General. Alan is the ally we need in Columbia who will do everything possible to keep our families and communities safe from harm’s way.”

Silly me, I had not yet realized that all law enforcement had become political. No wonder political white collar crimes can’t see the light of day and be prosecuted.
This letter of support yields a question I’ve been asking for a couple of years.
