The State: Worlds Apart [Winner: Best Front Page for swaying a potential future jury]

July 8, 2007

TRav

What happened to this picture of Thomas Ravenel at The State image library? Instead we see the following below no less than a half dozen times in as many days, never mind the implication of potential social injustice for those less fortunate than another. Did not The State endorse Ravenel?

[Update] My wife just reminded me (after rereading the article on the front page of The State today) that Thomas has a most incredible apitite (Not something a habitual user of cocaine has, that is an appetite). We enjoyed evenings out with TRav and other friends and anyone will tell you his favorite restaurant would be Wild Wings or any place that had chicken wings on the menu, not French Restaurants. Their attempt [The State] to make him a millionaire playboy as to the boy next door we knew is not only ridiculous but a lie and why can I say that, cause I know.

Innocent until proven guilty, someone at The State is looking to work over Ravenel thats for sure. Instead of laying out facts they are told through a “slightly” liberal point point of view.

I am a friend of the Ravenel family. I was raised in Charleston and raised right. I have a daughter who has fallen from grace. She is 27 sitting in a jail cell awaiting her outcome for possessing four grams of an illegal drug.. Will Arthur face the same treatment? I don’t think so, however we Charlestonian will never forget. Our reputation means something and the family is deeply hurt and ashamed along with all their friends. My daughter is facing 20-99 years in hell. What will the prosecution want fron Mr Ravenel. I pray is he receives relief for 500 grams that my daughter and all other in jail awaiting disposition of their charges are treated equally.

    Robert,

I believe you may have commented before and thank you for doing so as hard as it may be it pales in comparison to what you daughter is going through. As a conservative I do not for the life of me understand why we would not rehab users and throw the book at the distributors of who affect thousands of lives. Our jails are overcrowded thus murders and molesters go free. Which of our leaders will step forward and do something about this travesty, Clyburn, Graham, DeMint, Sanford?

    Post Direct Email:

Jeff: It looks like the State Newspaper is on the right track. I’d say it was balanced reporting even if the state Republicans are unhappy that what was stated might influence a jury. Who knows, maybe that is how Ravenel got to be a millionaire besides real estate connections? The Feds are starting at the bottom of the chain and working their way up from the snitch.

This is pretty simple. Here in SC, we need Knight-Ridder/McClatchy Publications to tell us how to think, so oftentimes they are kind enough to draw us a “Thinking Chart”, such as the one provided in this article. These are the facts they give us to swallow- hook, line, and sinker:

Ravenel – guilty of all charges until proven innocent
Miller – innocent of all charges until proven guilty, and only found guilty due to a corrupt system of justice.

    R – disagreeably rich
    M – “agreeably middle-class”

    R – college-graduate, with an MBA
M – unable to finish tech

R – son of former congressman
M – son of retired military

    R – white
    M – black

R – owner of mansion, lots of cash
M – owner of nothing, “no excess cash”

    R- old, tarnished
    M – young, clean

    R – attitude problem
    M – zero attitude problem

R – divorced, the only 35+ patron of Charleston’s night spots
M – single, at home reading the 10 Commandments with his mother

R – free time spent in French restaurants smoking cigars
M – free time spent overcoming hearing handicap and sketching

    R – lawless, heathen
    M – law-abiding, God-fearing

Okay. Everyone clear on these “facts” according to The State. Everyone satisfied with their brand of “truth”????????????? Or how about waiting until the real facts are known, not made-up??

Thus far the only facts are:

Ravenel – same charges as Miller
Miller – same charges as Ravenel plus ADDITIONAL CHARGES

If you’re a darling of the right, being a coke-head is OK, it would seem. Just part of the family-values agenda, no doubt.

My money says he’ll get nailed on the charges, even with his well-paid legal team or anything that appears on the front page of The State.

If he had a good defense, we’d have heard it by now.

Sure hope he trots out the good-appetite defense that was suggested on this forum.

I agree with you that rehab should be used instead of jail for drug offenders. I also believe in decriminalization of “Drugs”. How much evidence do we need that prohibition does not work? But you’re dreaming if you think any of the Republicans you mentioned will do anything to change it. Haven’t you noticed? Hypocrisy thrives in the GOP.

“If he had a good defense, we’d have heard it by now.” Ya think? You gotta be joking.

Denial and projection of fears run very very deep. ,
