The Immigration reform bill has been a disaster. At least now we know which Senators are for Immigration reform and those who oppose it. When the bill came up for a vote in the Senate on immigration reform here is how the Senators voted on it. An Aye vote is in favor of immigration reform and a Nay vote is those Senators who vote against immigration reform.

The ones in bold are Republicans who voted against illegal immigration reform. Of those 4 two of them have Republican primary opposition Jakie Knotts and Luke Rankin. I would encourage you to vote them out of office and help their opponents.

The Senate nonconcurred in the House amendments and a message was sent to the House accordingly.

I received the attached four-page “Incident Report” from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department pursuant to a Freedom of Information Act request.

This “Incident Report” demonstrates Mr. Scott using his position as a State Senator to demand special favors for himself, from magistrates whom he recommends for appointment, to get out of bed in the middle of the night to come and get him out of jail.

You can view the incident report PDF right here.

The event held this past Saturday, the third of May was by all accounts one of the finest charitable events SCHotline has had the pleasure of attending. Held at the home of Gordon and Karen Floyd, the A-List crowd numbered in excess of 300 and featured a keynote by Governor Mark Sanford.

UPDATE: After listening to the tapes the first person Randy Scott called was Jenna Sams, Senior Administrator assistant for Dorchester County Council. He thanks her for the night and asks her to call his wife who is heard on the rest of the tapes. Who is this lady and could this be the mystery lady that was alleged to be in the car with Randy Scott the night he was pulled over.

We have received a copy of the audio tapes from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s office these tapes were made when Randy Scott called different people on the night he was arrested.

The audio files arrived on a CD labeled, “Russell R. Scott, Summerville Annex Calls, 7 calls, 4-20-08, Jail ID used 364080, 363880, Sgt. Tilton” and the CD sleeve states, “The last call is the first call from Booking Room. The remaining calls are from jail cell.”

In these recordings Mr. Scott uses his position as a state senator to demand special favors for himself, from magistrates whom he recommends for appointment, to get out of bed in the middle of the night to come and get him out of jail.

You can listen for your self to all of them. These files are unedited and presented in their entirety.

I saw this article in the state and I thought I would google a little bit about the prison in Jesup, GA.

I found out Kevin Geddings is at the same prison maybe they will be roommates?

Here is the main prison website. http://www.bop.gov/locations/institutions/jes/index.jsp

Here is how you can write to Ravenel while he is in prison. http://www.myinmatelocator.com/Federal/Federal_Prisons/Jessup_Federal_Correctional_Institution.html

Why don’t you all do some google searches and post some more information about the prison here?

It seems that we can’t read, but then again 40% of South Carolinians can’t either. The email we received had a subject line of DUMP GRAHAM! PUT OUT SIGNS THIS WEEK! so without our morning cup of coffee we got confused and thought they were Dump Graham signs.

The Witherspoon campaign called our attention to it rather quickly. Good to see they read SC Hotline.com. They are not dump Graham signs they are Buddy Witherspoon signs. borrrrring no news here.

We were almost finished updating this morning when we received this breaking news email. It appears this email came from Chris Oviatt who is the political director for Whitherspoon for Senate and forwarded to us from another email address. If this is true it appears the Whitherspoon campaign is going negative on Senator Graham. If anyone has seen one of these dump Lindsey signs please send us a picture and we will post it. The email we received is below.

WITHERSPOON SUPPORTERS,
The signs are finally here and Buddy needs your help in getting them out. If you are able and willing please let me know so I can tell you where to pick them up. We are going to try and have all of the signs up by next weekend. We have pick up points in the low country, the upstate and the midlands. If you have a truck we really need your help with the 4 X 8’s. I look forward to hearing back from all of you!
Cheers!!

SC Hotline saw a story on FITSNews recently about a mail piece going out from the business community dealing with the workers compensation issue.

Today SC Hotline has exclusively obtained a copy of the mailing, which is from the SC Civil Justice Coalition.

Our information is that this mailing has been sent to voters in the districts of State Senator Dick Elliot, Catherine Ceips, Randy Scott, Jake Knotts, Luke Rankin and Joel Lourie. Each of those Senators is in a contested primary.

Economic Impact of Broken Homes in SC is $469 Million

Columbia, SC, April 15, 2008 – On this Tax Day 2008, Palmetto Family Council released the figures of a new report calculating the cost of divorce and unwed childbearing to South Carolina taxpayers. According to Ben Scafidi, Ph.D., economics professor at Georgia College & State University, the cost of broken homes to South Carolina taxpayers is $469 Million annually, enough to cover state spending for Clemson University, MUSC, and the Departments of Social Services, Juvenile Justice, and Probation Pardon & Parole. The full cost to the nation is $112 billion.

“The social impact of divorce on American society has been frequently discussed, but this is the first time the economic impact has been reliably estimated,” said Dr. Oran P. Smith, President of Palmetto Family Council.

The Taxpayer Costs of Divorce and Unwed Childbearing, unveiled today in Washington and Columbia, suggests that healthy marriage would reduce poverty in female-headed households by 60%, for an overall reduction in poverty of 40%. That decrease in families living below the poverty line would reduce outlays for criminal justice, welfare, Medicaid, and SCHIP (children’s health insurance). State and federal governments would also see more long term tax revenue from adults not raised in poverty.

Turning to solutions, participants in the news conference representing the faith community, professional & pastoral counselors, social agencies, business and government challenged each other to redouble private efforts to promote healthy marriage and stable family life. Anne Badgely of Heritage Community Services in Charleston also called for South Carolina to learn from the experiences of the States of Oklahoma and Texas, which have successfully invested state revenues in breaking the cycle of single-parent homes and promoting healthy family formation.

A copy of the full report, including national statistics, is available online from its sponsor, the Institute for American Values at www.americanvalues.org.

Palmetto Family Council, founded in 1994, is the state public policy affiliate of Focus on the Family. Its mission is to strengthen and defend South Carolina families.

Yes you read the headline right Brian Haskins has filed for County Council against Dr. Bob Taylor. As you may know Wendy Nanney is running against Gloria Haskins. Wendy is the daughter to Dr. Bob Taylor.

We also have confirmed that NO REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT has filed against Rep. Philip Shoopman and Dan Hamilton.

Also for the first time in 120 years the Greenville County Republican party has a FULL slate of candidates running in EVERY race.

In Spartanburg no Republicans or Democrats filed today. So this leaves Rita Allison with no oppostion from either the Democrats or the Republicans.

County Councilman Joe Dill has bowed of the State House race against Harry Cato. At a press conference earlier today Dill and Cato pledged to work along with Senator in waiting, Phil Shoopman.

Stay tuned for more details coming as they happen here at SCHotline.com. We will be updating on Sunday when filing closes at noon.
