Update: Rod Shealy no longer being considered
June 28, 2007
SC Hotline has learned from sources close to the Thompson campaign that Columbia political consultant Rod Shealy is no longer being considered by Fred Thompson because he was campaign consultant to indicted Treasurer Thomas Ravenel and convicted Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Sharpe.
We have also confirmed that the Giuliani campaign had the same concerns and are no longer considering him as well. It looks like Rod will not be on a presidential candidate payroll.

Notebook: Thompson’s South Carolina Consultant?
COLUMBIA — Some items in the notebook:
Thompson aides have also been talking to consultant Rod Shealy, who somehow managed to convince South Carolinians to re-elect their colorful lieutenant governor despite the latter’s penchant for violating state speed laws and for precipitating the occasional plane crash. Shealy is known outside South Carolina for this.

I did not write this or post it and I would never count Rod Shealy out of the game. He is and will be for some time the preeminent South Carolinian politico.

I haven’t seen Rod’s name on either indictment, only the success of those candidates. Mayhaps, given the Cahaly distancing from McCain, there is a place at that table.

In my opinion, Rod is the best consultant in SC, if not the entire South. He is not afraid to take on an underdog and he can do more with less.
He had nothing to do with Baurer’s problems or Ravenel’s problems.

Rod Shealy is the best there is out there. Period. Name someone with a better record of success, or of upset wins. or just look at the two special senate elections this year (both huge upsets). look at Bauer, Ravenel, Eckstrom etc.

Let’s see Rod is the best at getting low life people elected. First there was Charlie Sharpe. Convicted of cock-fighting and removed from office. Now there is Thomas Ravenel indicted for using cocaine. Let’s not forget Andre Bauer who had a policeman pull a gun on him and drove over 100 miles per hour and was pulled over. That is not to mention Richard Eckstrom who took a state vehicle on a family trip and also had to pay $58,000 for a sexual harassment law suit.
Did I forget to mention he is the only consultant in the state to have a criminal record. He was found guilty of ethics violations and plead guilty.
Yeah this is a great guy to have in the Republican party!

Yeah Right is a fool, there is not a pure consultant in this State of SC that doesn’t have a blemish, some bigger than others — one only needs to look at the surface of TTS and RQA — remember the living in glass houses and throwing stones phrase - it just might apply.

Rod Shealy is the kind of campaign manager that I associate with the Democratic Party. He promotes lies to harm his opponent knowing that by the time the lie is proved, the election will be over. He may win, but not the way that Mr. Thompson nor I would like to be known for winning. I see Mr. Thompson as an above board kind of person and he certainly does not need a snake in the grass like Shealy associated with his good name.

“Plead guilty?” I think someone’s research was not so carefully done.

Jeffrey or Joshua,
Are we sure you are talking to true “sources” or just random voices in your head??

Rod pleaded guilty to one count of failing to report a campaign contribution. It was a sweetheart deal for him given what he was charged with. According to those in the courtroom that day, Rod was shaking like a life entering that plea.
Fred Thompson is wise to stay from Rod Shealy right now. I agree Rod is talented and if I were running for Lexington Clerk of Court or even Senator from Berkeley, I had hire him [I know Shirley Hinson (R-Wassamassaw Baptist Church Parking Lot) is wishing she had]. But right now, Rod and Andre are waayy too radioactive for any Presidential campaign to be associated with.

-very well stated.

Anyone who counts Rod Shealy out of an election is a fool. As for his choice of candidates, he and his candidates have been unlucky in getting caught. Do not think that other consultants’ candidates haven’t had their share of problems. Rod just happens to represent so many successful candidates that he has a higher precentage of candidates who have had their difficulties displayed. In fact, if you look closely, his candidates are continually drug through the mud by the media. Truly, I think it is jealousy. The media and the mud slingers are jealous of Rod and his candiates’ success.

RODNEY IS THE BEST!

Rod Shealey also knows B’rer Rabbit’s best tactic sometimes was to “lay low and say nuthin”. So far, though unannounced, like Dame Hilary, Rod appears to have the sonar on passive mode.
